Installing Happ on macOS and Connecting with a Key
Happ runs on macOS without complicated configuration: download the app, add a key or subscription link from the Telegram bot, and connect.
What You Need Before Installing
Getting Happ running on a Mac requires two things: the app file itself and an access key. Keys and subscription links are issued only through the service Telegram bot — without one, connecting isn't possible even after installation.
- A current version of macOS with internet access for the download
- A key or subscription link from the Telegram bot
- A few free minutes
If you don't have a key yet, see the page on access keys for how to get one from the bot.
Downloading Happ for macOS
Download the macOS installer from the downloads page. The same page lists versions for every other platform in case you need Happ on additional devices.
- Go to the Happ for macOS download page
- Download the file that matches your Mac's architecture
- Wait for the download to finish in your Downloads folder
Installing and Launching Happ
Once downloaded, open the file and drag Happ into the Applications folder. On first launch, macOS may show a warning about an unidentified developer — this is standard Gatekeeper behavior, not a sign of a broken app.
- Open Applications and double-click Happ to launch it
- If a warning appears, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and allow the app to run
- Launch Happ again — it will now open without warnings
Adding a Key and Connecting
After launching the app, add the key or subscription link you received from the Telegram bot. In most cases, pasting the link into the right field is enough — Happ fills in the server details automatically.
- Open the Telegram bot and copy your key or subscription link
- Paste it into Happ on the add-key screen
- Pick a server and tap the connect button
For a closer look at this step, see the article on setting up Happ for the first time.
If the Connection Doesn't Work
Sometimes the connection doesn't establish on the first try — usually because of an expired key, an unstable internet connection, or a temporarily unavailable server.
- Check whether your key has expired
- Try selecting a different server from the list
- Restart the app and attempt to connect again
If the issue persists, check the Happ not connecting guide for common causes and fixes.
Frequently asked questions
Can I install Happ on macOS without a key?
The app installs fine, but you'll need a key or subscription link from the Telegram bot to connect to a server.
Why does macOS block Happ from opening?
This is standard Gatekeeper behavior for apps outside the App Store; you only need to grant permission once in System Settings.
Does the same key work on macOS and other devices?
Yes, keys and subscriptions are usually tied to your account rather than one device, so you can use them across platforms.
What if the app won't open after installation?
Check the Privacy & Security permissions on your Mac and try restarting before attempting to open Happ again.
